Why Do Teeth Require Trimming for Veneer Placement?

Why Do Teeth Require Trimming for Veneer Placement?Dental veneers are an innovative way to give your smile a makeover. Consisting of thin, porcelain shells, veneers correct stains, gaps, and crooked teeth.

Many people are excited about the prospect of veneers and getting a beautiful, new smile until they hear about the dental trimming requirement. However, you shouldn't fear this part of the process. Dental trimming is a painless and necessary part of veneer placement.

Why Your Teeth Need to Be Trimmed

In order for veneers to do their jobs, they have to look like the real teeth. While they are quite thin on their own, most teeth don't leave enough room for them to slip in unnoticed. For that reason, the thickness of the tooth must be reduced before veneer placement.

How it Works

Before you get your veneers, your dentist needs to fit them to your unique teeth. The width of your natural teeth needs to be matched with the veneer to produce a natural appearance. This is why existing teeth need to be trimmed for a proper fit, but the process is precise and only removes a small amount of the enamel.

Once the enamel has been shaved off, the veneer will bond appropriately to the roughened surface. Your dentist will then place the veneer, which should bond well to the roughened surface. The veneer may be placed to finish along the bottom of your teeth, or it may wrap around to the back. In this case, the biting surface of the teeth may need to be trimmed again so that this tooth doesn't appear longer than the natural teeth.

If you have any questions about the veneer placement process or whether veneers are right for you, give our office a call. We are standing by to help you get the smile of your dreams.
