Porcelain Teeth Veneers

At Ashley Bennett DDS and J.J. Perkiomaki DMD PC, we specialize in several cosmetic procedures to help give you a smile you always wanted. One of these procedures involves the placement of cosmetic dental veneers. Cosmetic dental veneers can vastly improve the color, shape, size, or length of your existing teeth.

What is a Teeth Veneer?

A cosmetic dental veneer is a razor-thin shell that is custom designed to cover the front portion of a tooth. Depending on your particular situation, you may need one veneer or several veneers to complete your cosmetic transformation. These days, most veneers are fabricated using porcelain or some other ceramic compound. They can also be made from composite resin materials, although the aesthetics are not as great.

What are Teeth Veneers Made of?

Teeth Veneers are typically made out of porcelain and are therefore often referred to as porcelain veneers. Porcelain has the same light-reflective properties as the hard outer surface of your teeth we call enamel. It can also be sculpted to match the texture of natural enamel. Most patients prefer porcelain for these reasons and the fact that it is stain resistant!

What are Porcelain Teeth Veneers Used for?

Veneers are routinely used to fix some cosmetic and functional issues, some of which include:
•  Discolorations: Teeth can become discolored from excessive exposure to certain liquids, root canal treatment, and certain medications.
•  Wear and tear: Over time, your teeth can become worn down from chewing, biting, and bruxism or teeth grinding.
•  Chips and fractures: A veneer can be used to fix the appearance of a chipped tooth or strengthen the structure if there are any fractures.
•  Misalignments and abnormalities: Veneers can be used to correct misaligned, uneven, or abnormally shaped teeth. They can also be used to fill in large gaps between teeth.

Many of our patients choose veneers over other options because they are a conservative alternative. For example, a dental crown requires a complete reshaping of the healthy enamel. To receive a veneer, we only need to shave off a minor amount. However, even though the amount is minimal, the procedure is still considered irreversible.

How are Teeth Veneers Placed on my Teeth?

The placement process is pretty straightforward.
•  Preparation: During your first appointment, Dr. Perkiomaki and Dr. Bennett will prepare each tooth that is receiving a veneer. Then, we remove a small amount of enamel from the front surface. In some cases, we may also remove a little from the sides. We must remove some enamel to accommodate the thickness of the veneer.
•  Impressions: Next, we will take a molded impression of the newly shaped tooth or teeth. This impression will be sent to our dental laboratory. There, the technicians will use it to fabricate your cosmetic dental veneer. This may take several weeks to complete. In some cases, we will give you a temporary veneer in the meantime.
•  Placement: Once your permanent veneer is ready, we can schedule your final appointment. During this appointment, we will place the veneer over the tooth to check the size, shape, and fit. We may need to shave off any excess material. Once we are satisfied with the fit, Dr. Perkiomaki and Dr. Bennett will permanently bond the veneer to the tooth.

How Long do Teeth Veneers Last?

This enhancement can last you several years, we see an average of minimum of seven years.
