Some patients have deeper grooves in their teeth, and some just may not be doing a sufficient job of brushing and flossing, making this area is the most vulnerable to decay and cavities. Using a dental sealant gives you that barrier between your tooth and bacteria thereby protecting your teeth. The incidence of cavities drops considerably with dental sealants.
Am I a candidate for dental sealants? We recommend sealants for all of our patients, but particularly:
|•||All children are candidates for dental sealants. As we know, children are still learning their daily care habits, sealants will protect their teeth while they do.|
|•||Adults of all ages who have continuous decay issues.|
|•||Adults with deep grooves in their back teeth. Food particles can be missed in those grooves with regular brushing.|
Dental Sealant ProcedureApplying sealants is a painless dental procedure. They are a low priced, preventative step that will reduce the chance of cavities. They are durable and will last you several years, but they are not permanent. With your regular checkups our team at Jukka J. Perkiomaki will want to check the status of your sealant. Sealants do not replace the need for regular brushing and flossing.
